biodiesel doesn't scale well. There is still lots of advancement required in order to make this viable. I remember hearing (or reading?) once that in order to power half the cars in Germany with biodiesel would require every acre of Germany to grow biodiesel crops.

The oil sands in Alberta have already been covered in the peakoil site, they take a lot of energy to extract. Just read the whole thing, they go over all the major alternatives and why it won't work out.
I'm going to plan for this economical meltdown.
If you think about it..it makes sense. Oil is used for everything. And...it's not an unlimited resource, something's gotta give at some point in time. Unfortunately, this site suggests sooner rather than later.

Will do...in summer (when I have more time)
I was hoping someone could find a good counterarguement for me xD
Now I'll have to stay paranoid.

The filter I use...is: avoid the christian sites at all costs.
Consider the source.
Consider the gain.
This site passed, because it would crash the stock market if the govt told the public that we'd have an economical meltdown due to the rising oil prices. Oh yeah, and there are no really good alternatives yet: have fun. The site also outlines our extreme dependence on oil. It's frightning. Someone proove me wrong, please.
Hydrogen fuel..doesn't solve the problem of other uses of oil ie: plastics....in a world without cheap plastic...

The "war energy" will be shored up with huge oil reserves such as we now already have. Of course they can't keep burning through oil forever. That's where tactical nukes come into play. Conventional war is energy-intensive. Nuclear war is not. Drop a couple of big ones on the troublemakers every 50 years or so, that will keep them in line.
Energy will never be out of reach for the wealthy. While you may bitch about paying $60 or even $120 for a fill-up at the pump, the wealthy don't give a damn. They are driving the company car anyway, they just pass the cost to the consumer.
We (the common Joe) have been living like kings for years now. I read on one of the Peak Oil sites that cheap oil is essentially, economically, like (everyone!) having a couple of personal servants. Well, that party is coming to an end. The energy crunch will hurt the poor a lot, and with the disappearance of the middle class (accellerated by Peak Oil), that will be the fate of most of our children and grandchildren.

And this is why the proletariat and the common man need to unite against capitalist exploiters who are using the sweat off of my brow to clean their shoes with.

You can make this stuff yourself in your backyard with some big container drums.
http://journeytofore...iesel_make.html
http://www.schnews.o...kebiodiesel.htm
http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/
http://en.wikibooks...._make_biodiesel
It's cheap (free if you make it), recycles used cooking oil, burns clean, can be used in any current diesel engine without any modfications and best of all.....
The exhaust fumes smell like popcorn or french fries
There are actually some biodiesel fueling stations around the US. Much more prevelant supposedly over in europe though:

I'm reading "The Coming Economic Collapse", by Stephen Leeb. It's about $200 per barrel oil and it's potential impact. It says the oil crunch will make the IT collapse look like a picnic. SCAREE!

I bet you sales of these would increase

As for the IT collapse, that was not the problem, the IT bubble was the problem!

Hmm, supposedly, biodiesel will work in almost all diesel engines today.
$5500 price tag is really good also! A lot more reasonable then the hybrid cars.

I want one, but I haven't been able to justify the expense yet. They've been selling (albiet a slightly different model) since 2001, so I should be on the lookout for a used one, but I doubt there's enough of them to bother at this point. If gas goes up enough, it won't take long to justify the expense.
